2000 FALL PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
In
the fall of 2000, the Ku Yu Kai club sent a small contingent of competitors
the BC Provincial Karate Championships. Seven karate-ka, representing
the False Creek, Richmond, and Whalley dojos, travelled to Kamloops
with Sensei George Chan and Sempai Alan Chan. It was a great bonding
experience for the participants, and our members performed in an outstanding
manner, earning a total of ten medals.
Chris
Fung, Trevor Lo-Chang, and Parham Peiroo certainly made a splash in
the boy's 16-17 kata division, in which they finished, respectively,
first, second and third. Only tenths of a point separated them, while
they significantly outperformed the other competitors in their division.
Other
medalists included: Marianne Fung (2nd place in Women's Intermediate
Kata and Kumite); Kevin Li (1st place, Boy's 13-14 Intermediate Kumite);
Trevor Lo-Chang (2nd place Junior Weapons); Christopher Fung (2nd place
Boys 16-17 Intermediate Kumite); Parham Peiroo (3rd place Boys Black
Belt -60kg kumite); Natasha Lo-Chang (2nd place in Women's Intermediate
Kumite).
