Students who have attended the required number of classes and are, in the opinion of their instructor, ready to advance a grade, are encouraged to test for the next belt level. Belt tests usually take place twice per year. Individuals testing for Ni Dan (2nd degree) black belts are encouraged to test at Saiko Shihan's dojo in Japan. However, higher degree black belt tests can occur in Vancouver.
